Shane is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Education with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Science. Shane has been teaching in the independent school system for the past 13 years. He started his career in Montreal at Lower Canada College where he taught Middle School Science and coached the Middle School Hockey and Soccer programs. Shane moved back to Halifax in 2012 and has spent the past 9 years at the Halifax Grammar School. He also taught Middle School Science and Physical Education at the Grammar School along with serving as the school’s Athletic Director for the past 6 years.
Shane played 4 years of Jr. B hockey in Antigonish while attending STFX University. He then moved on to coach the Jr B Bulldogs as an assistant for one year and then the head coach the following year during his two years of the Education program at STFX. He then moved to Montreal to teach and coach at Lower Canada College. He coached their U15 prep program there for 4 years. When he moved back to Halifax in 2012 he coached three years of U15 Major league with the Bedford Barons between 2013 and 2015. During that time he received his High Performance 1 coaching certification along with the Hockey Nova Scotia checking clinic instructor certification.
